چکیده
The ability to present and defend ideas effectively is a critical aspect of academic communication. The aim of this study is to show how English and Persian writers communicate with their readers effectively by using Hyland's metadiscourse model. Using a corpus-based quantitative and qualitative approach, data were analyzed using frequency figures, highlighting cross-linguistic differences. the type, frequency, and function of metadiscourse markers in six sets of English and Persian editorials and research articles were compared. The results reveal that English articles surpass Persian ones in the use of interactive and stance metadiscourse markers, whereas Persian articles use more engagement markers than English articles. A comparative analysis shows how writers adjust their rhetorical choices across languages and disciplines to enhance coherence, express stance, and actively involve readers. These findings underscore the importance of cross-linguistic awareness in academic writing and translation and provide practical insights for pedagogy and research in multilingual contexts.
