Comparing vowel quantity in two different ʔaruz poetic recitations

In this paper we Compare vowel quantity in two different recitations. We  investigate vowel quantity in two different ʔaruz poetic recitations: ʔaruz recitation which is based on metrical rules and modern recitation which doesn’t regard them. The research is done by Praat. Vowel durations are measured in different phonetic contexts. Results show that in ʔaruz recitation there is a significant difference in quantity between short and long vowels. But this difference is vanished in modern recitation. Vowel quantity in modern recitation is compared to Persian speech as well. The pattern of vowel quantity in modern recitation tends to the same pattern in Persian speech.
