Abstract
Cognitive semantics considers language as part of human ability, through which one can explain the imagined world. Johnson and Lakoff (1987) categorize schemas into three general types (container, path, and force). In the present research, using a descriptive-analytical method, various types of force-dynamic schemas in Nezami’s HaftPeykar have been examined to determine the frequency of each schema and to visualize the depth of the poet’s intended concepts. The findings revealed that different types of force-dynamic schemas are employed in Haft Peykar with the blockage schema being the most frequent. Concepts such as divine destiny (qaza o qadar), infallibility (ismat), Bahram’s power, and the confrontation between forces of oppression and justice were present. The predominance of the blockage schema indicates the numerous obstacles faced by Bahram and other characters. The analysis of force-dynamic schemas reflects the poet’s theocentric-ethical worldview.
