Abstract
This research employs a descriptive-analytical method within the framework of Paris School semiotics (Greimas) to analyze the value system associated with women in four stories from Saadi's Gulestan. The primary aim is to elucidate the formulation of this axiological system through actional, stative, and tensive discursive regimes and to reveal the social status of women based on their discursive roles. Findings indicate that the value of women in these stories is predominantly material and figurative; their worth is contingent upon possessing the socially desirable material attributes. Furthermore, the analysis of women's roles within the discursive systems reveals a passive image, lacking perceptible and impactful social agency, and largely depicted in the shadow of men.
