Abstract

In the present study, the changes of productivity of some agent affixes in Persian including, "/-ɒ/, /-gær/ and /-ænde/" was investigated with a historical and corpus-based approach. The affixes are used as active agent affixes and the reason for choosing them for this research is the common meaning they share. The aim of the present study was to answer these questions:1- how has been the evolution of the affixes "/-ɒ/, /-gær/ and /-ænde/" according to productivity in the target body from the 4th century to the contemporary period? 2- In the contemporary period, which of target affixes was the most productive and which was the least productive? The words containing the target words were extracted and analyzed using Ant-Conc software. The results show that productivity of the above-mentioned affixes was irregular and not ascending or descending. In contemporary period, suffix /-ænde/ is more productive than the other two affixes.
