Abstract

In this research, the word order of the Arabic dialect of Arabkhaneh in South Khorasan has been studied from a typological point of view. Arabkhaneh is a region consisting of several villages, 90 kilometers south of Birjand, which in its mixed Arabic-Persian dialect has been influenced by the surrounding Persian language at all levels. “The Word Order Correlations” (Dryer, 1992) was chosen as the framework to investigate the word order of the dialect of Arabkhaneh. The results of applying 25word order parameters to this dialect were compared to the Euro-Asian, African and world languages. The data collection was done by 10 Arabkhaneh informants (5 men and 5 women at the age of 60). Then the data was transcribed based on IPA. The result of applying 25word order parameters to Arabkhaneh's dialect in comparison to the Euro-Asian and African and also the word languages showed a tendency towards strong VO-type language.
