Abstract

South Khorasan, due to its distance from the capital and being located on the edge of the desert, has Persian dialects that have preserved some features of Middle Persian and early Dari. In this research, the variations of verb construction in different tenses in the border dialects of South Khorasan (Birjandi, Nehbandani and Qaini) are provided. The researcher has extracted and recorded the required information to collect data through interviews and direct observation. The number of speakers in each of these dialects was 5 native speakers with an average age of 60 years in two genders. Also, the works that investigated the dialects of South Khorasan have been reviewed. In some cases, the researcher's linguistic intuition (Birjandi) has helped him. The results of the present study indicate important differences in the construction of verbs in the border dialects of South Khorasan with standard Persian.
