Abstract

This research is analyzing Persian locative prepositions, namely ‘dar’[in], ‘be’[to], ‘ruye’[on], and ‘zire’[under] in the framework of cognitive linguistics. The current research is mainly analytical and statistical, and it is corpus-based. To this end,we developed a corpus from textbooks in grade 1 to 6,including Farsi, Experimental Sciences,Social Studies, and Heavenly Gifts, and extracted the samples containing the selected prepositions and tagged semantically. In the data analysis, the spatial relations and prototype approach in the framework of cognitive semantics proposed by Tyler and Evans(2003) were used.According to the annotated samples, it was concluded that the prototypical meaning of each locative preposition in open-domain is not necessarily the same as in domain-specific, i.e, the dominant meaning of a preposition in different subjects (domain specific) may not be the same as the prototypical meaning in general. This founding can be taken into consideration in the teaching process of lessons’ contents and students’ cognitive capabilities to comprehend the content.
