Conceptualization of the word "still" in Cognitive Grammar

Abstract

The current research analyzes the conceptualization of the word "still" as well as extracting its concepts and meanings through the Cognitive Grammar. The corpuses we used include BijanKhan Corpus, Persian weblogs and websites and the personal recordings collected from daily conversations carefully examined to bring about the word's most comprehensive semantic bottlenecks to be analyzed and the conclusion was provided in the forms of concepts and meanings. Hence, for the word "still", the concepts continuation of the previous process in the speech event process (sort of aggregation) and simultaneous differentiation and congregation, and the meanings so far (excluding the present), always and nonstop (no Persian equivalent in one word), the way it was (no Persian equivalent in one word), up to and as soon as were released. Besides, we discovered and coined the novel concept and term of extremity as a new analytical device in CG.
