Some Typological Characteristics of the Bakhtiyari Dialect of Masjed Soleyman

Abstract

Bakhtiyari dialect, a member of the Lori branch of Iranian languages, has many geographical varieties. In this paper we attempt to survey some typological characteristics of the syntax of this dialect such as possession ,word order, definiteness, case marking, and passive constructions. It will be demonstrated that in this dialect the passivization has two manifestations morphological and peripherastic. Possession is realized using different strategies including juxtaposition, affixation, and adposition. An interesting feature of this dialect is the expression of superlative adjective using reduplication. Direct objects are case marked and definiteness marker has three allomorphs. Finally this dialect has a basic SOV order.
