Abstract

The impact of male secret language on female young genderlect
Most studies indicated genderlects provide a crucial role in establishment of language varieties used by male and female groups. Women adopt standard variety of language where as men follow informal norms hidden in non- standard varieties of language.
Tajfel (1984) proposed a theoretical frame work in which minority groups meant, women try to assimilate towards the linguistic norms of majority group, that is, men to find equal opportunities and facilities in the society.
This survey tries to find out whether young female testees follow the female genderlect norms in their inter and intra relations communication or assimilate towards the covert prestige of young male genderlect. The results show that the female testees assimilation is greater than male testees in inter relation linguistic interactions while they prefer to use the young male secret language in their intra relation communication as well.
