Abstract

This paper is an attempt, for the first time, to survey the patterns of alignment in Soi. In doing so, a systematic description of pronominals in Soi is provided and, in that light, an analysis will be offered of the agreement and case-marking patterns. It will specifically be demonstrated that Soi employs nominative-accusative alignment in agreement and case-marking, in present tense clauses. However, in past tense clauses, agreement follows a tripartite alignment, while case-marking displays absolutive-ergative alignment. The results of this study will contribute to the growing body of literature on the typology of Iranian languages, and of Soi for that matter.
