Abstract
The book Historical Linguistics comprises eight chapters, with its concluding glossary bringing the total to 378 pages. As previously noted, this work is the first of its kind dedicated to the historical linguistics of the Persian language. Furthermore, Persian is among the oldest languages with an accessible written heritage. Consequently, there exists no historical linguistics book in any other language with a lineage comparable to Persian that the author could have adopted as a model for the book's structure. Therefore, the sequence of the chapters is the result of the author's own selection and initiative. It is the present reviewer's belief that upon a complete reading of the book, one can place oneself in the author's position and to some extent apprehend the logic underlying the chosen chapter arrangement. The continuation of this introduction is based on this very premise.
